Background

Commencing in June 2004, the Village Road Programme (PJK) has been carried out through the Works Department (JKR) as the implementation agency. This method of implementation is in accordance with the Cabinet decision on 12 May 2004. The implementation of PJK through JKR is a continuation from a series of methods applied prior to this, i.e. through the District Offices (1981 – 1996), The Payong Method (1997 – 2000), The Integrated Method (2001 – 2002) and the Alternative Method (2003).

Scope of PJK Programme

Beginning from the 8th Malaysia Plan (8MP), the scope of implementation of PJK was divided into two components, i.e. :-

(a) Upgraded

  • To construct new roads so that the routes of village roads would offer maximum benefit/utility for users;
  • To upgrade present roads with or without a change in the routes; and
  • To construct/upgrade village roads in LKW/LKT areas but not including Estate Roads.

(b) Maintenance of Roads

  • Restoring road granite;
  • Repairs on (road) shoulders, drains, culverts and street furniture; and
  • Resealing of roads.
